Art of Title Comparison Shots (9 Stills)

The initial shot of the film 'Panic Room' opens up with an establishing shot from on top of city skyline, in the foreground the with the words of the institution 'Columbia Pictures Presents'. My groups title sequence from 'Solo' opens with a shot of Christel's torso standing by a car whilst she dials her phone. The two shots challenge the conventions of real media products by starting with a shot of a person rather than an establishing shot of location.

The seconds shot from Panic Room opens with another shot of the city skyline, but this time it is a close up a shot from a lower angle. Again there is a title in the foreground. The second title from Solo opens with a similar shot to the first one, by using an establishing shot of one of the characters in the clip.

The next shot from panic room is an extreme close up of the buildings yet again with another title in front of it. The next shot from Solo introduces the first title character it is also the first title to appear within the screen shot, whereas previous ones appeared before now on a black background.

Panic room then has an even more extreme close up just of the tops of the buildings a slight angle, with yet again a title in front. Solo contrasts this by using a shot that is not close up but not as close as the one in panic room. This shot is similar to the first one in the 9 stills of Solo, which was of Christel's torso. But now the shot is not as close up, the car is also more of a main feature in this shot. It establishes the location more compared to the orginal shot.

The fifth shot of Panic room can be compared to the previous one but this time instead of showing the building tops it focusses on the centre of the buildings. Again the shot is at a diagonal angle, it also appears to shot from a titled angle, high above. This time the title appears to be blending in with the building, compared to Solo which has all the titles facing straight towards the screen and are rough;y the same size. The titles in Panic Room come from and are shot at different angles.

The next shot of finally displays the title of the movie which is centered on the screen in the foreground of the buildings, unlike Solo which doesn't introduce the title until the end of the sequence. The next shot from my thriller simply shows action that are taking place.

Panic room shows a shot the buildings and the busy roads. This is the first time any action is show in any of these title shots. Solo simply shows Alima in the corner with the data scrolled along the bottom.

Solo's penultimate shot is of the timer which represents a bomb in the actual sequence. Panic room goes back to its shot of a birds eye view with the titles along the buildings again.

The final shot of Panic room an establishing shot of a park with the buildings the background. Solos final shot of a face. The shot is close up to show the emotion and i feel that it suggests what is going to happen next.
