Newspaper Thriller Storyboard

This is a storyboard of Alima, Dionne, Sammie & My 'Newspaper Thriller'. I was the main character of the thriller - the person who is reading the newspapr - and Alima was the character who was in position as tension. Dionne & Sammie chose to film this shot...

KEY: LS -
Long Shot, WS - Wide Shot, CU - Close Up, ECU - Extreme Close Up, MS - Meduim Shot OSS - Over-The-Shoulder Shot, SRS - Shot-Reverse-Shot, POV - Point Of View Shot

Picture 1
This is an overview of the park of where the newspaper thriller is set. It is shown at a LS so that the audience are able to see everything. As first, we thought we would use panning to establish the whole park, but this consumed too much time and we thought the audience would get bored after only a few seconds without introducing anything!

Picture 2
This is a MS of myself walking with the newspaper, we used tracking to show my movements from the entrance of the park, all the way to where i sat down on a bench

Picture 3In this image, the shot is shown as a OSS so the audience have an idea of what i am seeing.. this image puts the audience in the same position as myself. To get from picture 2, to this picture, we had to cut-play-cut so that it would run smoothly. When we edited this, we had to allow continuity to take place.

Picture 4
This picture is very similar to picuure 2 as MS and tracking are also used here, however, in this clip, I am reading the newspaper

Picture 5
LS was used in this image so the audience are able to see I am simply sitting on a bench, reading the newspaper in the park. At this point, tension is not being built up.

Picture 6
This image was of a WS from behind the bushes; where tension begins. When editing, this shot was a problem because from picture 5 to this picture, the position of the newspaper had changed so we had not beared in mind 'continuity', however, we used a "dissolve" transition to show a change in time.

Picture 7
In this image, I am shown a CU reading the newspaper. To get from picture 6 to this picture, instead of using 'zoom-in', we cut the tape and replayed from a closer postition. The point of this CU shot was to get the 'concerned'/'shocked' expression so the audience are aware something is to occur.

Picture 8
In this image, we used ECU so the audience can focus on the newspaper, this also gave us the oppurtunity to allow Alima, to appear without behind me without the acknowledgement of the audience.

Picture 9
Here we used a LS so the audience can see the appearance of Alima. I am "unaware" of her being there, so it builds up excitement for the audience.

Picture 10
This is an OSS so the audience sewe that Alima is seeing. During this shot, I realise the presence of Alima and I turn around, after spotting her...

Picture 12
..and begin to walk away from Alima towards another bench as I am aware of her creepiness.

Picture 13This image is of a LS of me jogging away from Alima. Dionne attempted to get my movements by shaking the camera whilst I ran so the audience would get an idea of how I felt. It is obvious that Alima is left behind, but what is to come, also builds tension for the audience.

Picture 14
This is a POV so the audience can be in the position of me running, they to are experiencing what I am going through which builds up the anticipation

Picture 15
This image is of me showing relief that I have gotten away from Alima, this is a CU to show my expression of content, which also relaxes the audience.. for now!

Picture 16
In this MC shot and POV shot, Alima jumps out at me which puts the audience in a position of wonder.. "How Did Alima Get There?"
Filming this shot was very simple, yet we had to use SRS numerous of times to show my reaction.

Picture 17
ECU was used to portray shock from how Alima appeared after I thought I had ran away from her. This builds tension for the audience as it leaves them with a cliffhanger.. "What Is To Happen From Here?"
