Ghost ship (2002)
The font in this film, appeals to me because its medium size, white and clear to see font. The serif fonts suggest that its a serious or scary matter shown in the film. If they would have used sans serif fonts on the cover. It might not have bin taken seriously or might have bin considered a joke which takes away the scary aspect.The colour of the font is white. The title is Ghost ship, the white could be representing the "Ghost's" that are shown in the film. The font is fading into the water, this shows that the film is scary and is to do with a ship.

EXTENSION: Fonts Used By Films Which Appeal To Me

From looking at the title of this film, 'Dorian Gray', you can tell that the theme of the film is of no comedy but of a serious matter. The serif font - which has the extra detail at the end of each stroke of every letter - adds a more formal atmosphere to the film and suggests it is more suitable for older viewers. The title shows the reflection of the yellow effect from the image it is on which adds character. Also, as it is more or less transparent, it comes across as fragile and therefore important for the viewer.
The title is positioned in the center of the image towards the bottom. This demonstrates the importants of the title and also, the dominance of the man shown on the image as the positioning of the title suggests he is 'Dorian Gray'.

Intro To Cameras and Health & Safety Tutorial

Before going out with the camera's to practice making a clip, a tutorial about using the camera's appropriately and health and safety was given to us. Step-by-step, we learnt how to use the camera: how to turn it off and on, how sit it on the tripod - and to lock it into place, how to record a clip... re-watch it after making it and how to delete it. We also learnt how to use the features of the camera i.e - zoom and focus.

Equally, we learnt the health and safety rules, as well as warnings! We were told not to use the camera's in the rain or any bad weather conditions as it may damage the technical device - £3,000 is not a small amount! We were also asked neither to change any settings on the camera as it may cause a loss of clips or the functioning of the camera nor to touch the lens as it leaves fingerprints which may interfere with filming.
The tutorial was beneficial for us students to know how to use the camera, as many may not have been introduced to one.

Technical Audit of Bait Tutorial

During today's lesson 26/Jan/2010, with Andrew we learnt how to use the program for editing clips. Using approximately 10 clips, he demonstrated to us how to take out unwanted parts to create one flowing clip. He also introduced to us new keyboard shortcuts to use the program such as Space - Play/Pause, 'I' - Input and 'O' - Output.
Input is used to select where you wanted the edited clip to start, Output is then used to select where the clip should finish. On the program there is a storyboard where all the edited clips, as well as soundtracks and effects, are placed. When the input and output have been selected, it can be dragged to the storyboard and played to view on the canvas.
Individually, we attempted to edit the different clips inorder to make a story which would make sense. Trying to find the clips in the right order was hard enough, let alone editing!
However, this was an enjoyable and new experience which plays an important role in our coursework.

No country for old men

The opening credit in silence then the voice over takes over already gives a good vibe of suspense. This indicates that we do not know whom that character is weather they play a good role or a bad role.

There is the build up to the opening of the car door. The door is hidden by dust this is the good technique used that creates suspense because of the anticipation of not knowing who is going to come out of the car.

The Cohen brothers create tension as well as suspense in the beginning of the movie.
The man in the foreground is on the phone but the camera zooms in to focus on the killer. This creates suspense because we know the killer is there but the other character does not know.

The delayed chase sequence and close timing before the man shoots the dog. This creates suspense because it drags and we do not know if the man is going to bee killed by the dog or the men chasing after him.

Parallel editing – showing events in two locations both reaching for same point. This creates tension because we as the viewer want to know what is happening in both parts and it makes us anxious to find out what going to happen next.

The tracking device – when the red light is blinking it means that the killer is coming. This makes us scared for the character and makes us feel involved with the movie.

The mysterious and unexpected plot is always going to keep the audience in suspense and it did. I was so keen on finding out what happens at the end because the film was as if was a cat and mouse chase and the story could change at any minute. This is what kept viewers in suspense.

You just do not know what is going to happen next. Suspense also creates doubtfulness. This makes the viewer unsure and uncertain. Suspense is also very anticipating. In addition, a situation built up from suspense is quiet mysterious, which makes it exciting.
